Dec 28, 2022By: Amy Matthews - Certified Cannabis Coach & Educator, Non-Profit Consultant and Co-Founder of The Effective Cannabis Newsletter
We would like to introduce you to other organizations that do great work in the Cannabis space. The Effective Cannabis Newsletter is based in the United States but we already have international subscribers.
EduCanNation is a Canadian nonprofit organization, devoted to improving the quality of Cannabis education and care across Canada, and beyond!
Their mission is to provide the highest standard of responsible Cannabis education.
This newsletter is a collaboration of like minded people in the Cannabis industry that are dedicated to supporting and educating people that want to utilize Cannabis for their health and wellness.
As a group of unified Educators, we can have a louder voice to advocate for medical Cannabis. If you live in Canada and you are seeking resources for Cannabis support and education, you will find many Canadian coaches and educators in our Effective Cannabis Newsletter directory and many of them are members of EduCanNation.
Many of our subscribers don't work in the Cannabis industry. Still, it was essential to showcase an organization like EduCanNation in our first issue of the Effective Cannabis Newsletter. Highlighting them is important because when you, as a consumer, seek someone to educate you about Cannabis and be your guide, we want you to know that hard-working professionals are staying on top of this ever-changing industry. Furthermore, we want you to know they are well-trained, professional, and ready to serve you, just like all the Cannabis Coaches and Educators in the Effective Cannabis Newsletter directory.
About the Beginning and Mission of EduCanNation
In the winter of 2020, Stacy Bobak, a Certified Cannabis Educator, and Steph Massey Certified Cannabis Educator had just started their independent businesses as Cannabis Educators. However, they quickly noticed that support systems for this industry still needed to be created. So, leaning on all their combined knowledge as young breast cancer survivors, they combed through their experiences as patients.
These two women wondered, "where is the 'support system' for Cannabis Educators?" and "who can I chat with when I have a difficult case and need expert advice?" Locally, there were only a few doctors and pharmacists that would even acknowledge Cannabis as a medicine. Let alone recognize and respect a Cannabis Educator whose job it was to help educate about Cannabis as medicine and help patients who wanted to access it for medicinal purposes.
They decided to reach out to everyone they knew in the Canadian Cannabis industry. Although their network was somewhat limited (only 1.5 years into federal legalization of adult-use Cannabis in Canada), Stacy and Steph instantly found that many people, specifically women, were interested in joining a "collective" of Cannabis Educators. After only a few meetings, the group of Educators was introduced to Shawna Dunbar's dream project. Shawna, another certified Cannabis Educator, working in clinical practice, had tried to launch EduCanNation a few times over the last few years. She opened up to the women of the collective about her struggles to meet like-minded people who would help bring her vision of a standard of practice and standardized education to the Cannabis industry.
Steph and Stacy quickly understood that EduCanNation shared and believed deeply in their mission of elevating knowledge of this plant medicine and making the information accessible to patients, healthcare professionals, and the general population.
This group of amazing women quickly became deeply aligned and got to work. Shawna, Steph, and Stacy are the Co-Founders of EduCanNation Cannabis Education Inc., a not-for-profit organization in Canada. EduCanNation (ECN) has an all-female Board of Directors who care deeply about the medical Cannabis patient and ALL of the struggles that patients face. ECN's mission is to provide the highest standard of responsible Cannabis education.
EduCanNation cares deeply about laying solid foundations under their organization. As a result, they have been building educational programs and content for iMD health/CloudMD. One of these educational videos appears in the "start here" section of the Effective Cannabis Newsletter in this month's issue. You can share this video with your doctor if you want to start a conversation with them about Cannabis.
EduCanNation offers continuing education weekly for Cannabis Educators within their membership, focusing specifically on complex cases and business practices as an Educator. They bring in experts and discuss topics that Educators NEED to be aware of in this ever-changing industry. They have patients, industry experts, and healthcare professionals whom they consult regularly. They continue to meet with industry experts and professionals throughout the first year of this business to introduce EduCanNation. They do this to make them aware that they are here, doing the work, to set a standard for Cannabis education and the practice of providing the education to others. They continue to listen, learn, and discuss issues of concern within the industry relating to the patient's journey with Cannabis.
EduCanNation is a Canadian Registered Nonprofit Organization, and they care deeply for patients and their journey with Cannabis medicine.
