Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways.

We’ll be discussing the potential therapeutic role of cannabis during asthma attacks. Detailing the pathophysiologic mechanisms by which THC may serve as a rescue bronchodilator for asthmatic patients during severe asthma attacks. Cannabis not only reduces inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin production, but also has components which produce actions similar to that of Albuterol, the front-line treatment of asthma!

We'll wrap up the lesson with a quick mention of the specific physiologic target which creates the downstream effects of opening airways (bronchodilation) through activation of prejunctional Cannabinoid CB1 receptors.
